Put some WOW into your wedding!

Robert+Kristina_Married!

Kicking off Spring twenty years ago at the premiere of “Four Weddings and a Funeral,” Elizabeth Hurley may have explored with a consultant about what she would wear to the movie premiere. One action or decision can change the perfect event into something unexpected.

According to news.com.au, Hurley suggests her career may have taken a more serious turn had she not worn the famous Versace safety-pin dress that captured the world’s attention. Hurley became an overnight sensation when she appeared alongside her then boyfriend Hugh Grant wearing the infamous black evening gown for the premiere. The plunging Versace dress was held together by oversized gold safety pins, leaving little to the imagination. “THAT dress,” as it was forever then called, launched her career, but quite possibly the one she desired.

Spring refers to love, hope, youth and growth. Rebirth and renewal are the real purpose of Spring. Yes, the cake, gown and centerpieces are all important, but what about the one detail that takes it over the top? We want to bring new trends and services to make your special event not just beautiful but thought-provoking and modern. There are many details that go into creating a special event, but a final touch is when you incorporate a WOW moment with something new and different.

For the ceremony, a giant chuppah can take your guests breath away. {Pictured: the groom handmade the chuppah for his wife-to-be.} Walking down the aisle, is also a magical moment, and could be show stopping with a fireworks display or a special performance as you walk down the aisle.

Take a few dance lessons before your wedding, but instead of the standard waltz, choose a sultry tango or a high-energy swing routine, and then surprise everyone during your first dance. For an unexpected surprise, get your dad or even your grandpa in on the act. {Pictured: this new bride choreographed a funky dance for the Father-Daughter Dance.}

Just when everyone thinks the fun is winding down, liven up the party with late-night nibbles that will leave everyone ready for an after-party. Think about it: crinkle French fries, fresh chocolate chip cookies and milk shooters, a fully loaded taco bar, or even a chicken and waffle truck!

Top Emerging 2014 Wedding & Event Trends

Lately, we’ve been seeing some amazing event trends that will have your guests talking about your wedding or event for years to come! Here’s what’s new:

1. Modern Opulence

ImageWe would’t say the the DIY rustic vintage trend is going bye bye, but we are seeing a slight shift from rustic to more modern, sophisticated themes with classic and dynamic details. From modern lounge furniture and vintage touches throughout the cocktail hour with lavish linens and an over the top elegant reception ~to~ complete monochrome reception decor with an old world glamour twist and haute couture inspired gowns ~to~ basic colors and modern lounge settings with pops of glam, sparkle, glitter and “talk of the town” entertainment.

2. Interactive Dining & EntertainingImage

Getting away from the seated 5-course meal, we are seeing a lot more creative food and beverage displays that encourage guest interaction. From small tasting plates paired with wine, beer or even whiskey samplings at the cocktail hour ~to~ live chef action stations and cooking lessons ~to~ dinners progressing from room to room ranging from tapas style plates, family style dinner service, make-your-own-bars, and late night surprises. And just in case you’re getting bored…the most exciting entertainment has included live bands with costume changes and multiple acts, glow in the dark props, stilt men and aerial cirque style performers.

3. Large “WOW Factor” Focal Points

Who doesn’t want their guests to say, “WOW, look at that…I’ve never seen that before!” Besides the unique interactive dining and entertainment options, some of the decor details that we have been incorporating include oversized opulent chandeliers, marquee signs with colored lights, ice sculptures; including luges and bars, fabric draped grand entrances with uplighting, bold statement floral arrangements and custom designed dance floors with company logo or couple’s monogram. Incorporating a logo or monogram throughout all the decor elements is a great way to brand a corporate event or add a personal touch with a couple’s monogram to a wedding. These are the little details the guests will remember, along with their over the top experience!

Now, who’s ready to party?

If Your Dreams Don’t Scare You, They’re Not Big Enough!

Today, I’m sharing my ultimate dream…managing my own Estate Venue for Weddings and Events. This has been my ultimate dream/goal/vision for some time now and recently it’s been on my heart a lot!

The Cordova

Almost everyday I run past this Estate on Sunset Cliffs. It is for sale. The price has gone down, but it still at a 3.4 million dollar price tag. This particular Estate is perfect, because the main house could be the amazing Venue/Events + Style concierge office. My husband and I could also live in the back guest house. I know that my dream is big enough to scare me, because I actually contacted the agent and have investigated a loan to purchase it. However…I am still working on how I can make that happen!

I know that If my dream is going to happen, I need to ask for it, share with others, and pray about it lots. If anyone knows of an Estate that the owners would like to discuss having Events + Style manage  Beautiful Weddings and Events…I would be interested in talking with them. The Estate could generate additional income from Events and could possibly double as a Vacation Home Rental.

Ocean Views are preferred, but I would consider all Estates with Huge Venue, Dream Fulfilling Potential 🙂

Inspiration: Kentucky Derby Party

The 138th running of the Kentucky Derby is this Saturday! Time for big hats and big bets for the most exciting two minutes in sports. Can’t make it to Churchill Downs in Kentucky? Host your own Derby party on your own “Millionaire’s Row” with Mint Juleps and good Southern food.

It’s not enough to just wear a big hat, the whole event has to be decked out in Derby decor! “The Run of the Roses” is another name the Derby is known by, since the winning horse is covered in a blanket of roses. This is a great theme for a Derby party. Romantic, real, red roses can be used or DIY rolled, roses can be made like in the photos bellow. Hostess with the Mostest blogger wanted to create a vintage-modern event that looked classy, casual and fun like the Derby itself. This is the perfect way to throw a “Run of the Roses” party!

The Mint Julep Jars shown above, are actually just party favors with Junior Mints inside. A real Mint Julep is a very strong, very traditional Southern drink held up in cheers while, “My Old Kentucky Home” plays before the race starts. They are served in chilled silver julep cups filled to the rim with bourbon, simple syrup, fresh mint and crushed ice, an absolute must for a Derby party!

Since bourbon is a Kentucky favorite, it’s a very popular ingredient in desserts too! Chocolate-Bourbon Pecan Pie and Bourbon Balls are the perfect items to end the Derby day celebrations. Pie preparation only takes about 10 minutes, if using a refrigerated pie crust and Bourbon Balls are easy to make. Who wouldn’t love chocolate and liquor together?

A true Kentuckian created this “Run for the Roses” party bellow with Chocolate-Pecan Pie inspired Kentucky Derby Cupcakes and Kentucky Bourbon Ball Pops! Mirabelle Creations blogger, used her own party printables that make this party so cute!

Inspiration: April Showers Bring May Flowers

You’ve heard it before and this April has been no exception in San Diego! The local weathermen are actually predicting even more rain over the next few days, reminding us of this childhood poem and a different type of spring shower. With wedding season coming up, this is the perfect time to host a shower for your engaged friend or a baby shower for your expecting friend!

To take a break from the gloomy weather outside, shower (or sprinkle) your friend who has cause to celebrate. Taking this theme literally for either type of shower can be adorable, so are candy themed showers and tea parties. A sprinkle is a baby shower for someone who is not expecting their first child so they don’t need to be showered with gifts but they could use a little sprinkle.

This rain shower themed baby shower was made with Fiskars crafting tools. What’s great about this theme is that it’s gender neutral and can be used at any baby shower. The hand-crafted little details make a big impact, the rain drops are hearts folded in half!

Alice in Wonderland themed tea parties are also so adorable for spring showers. This English Tea themed bridal shower was actually held on the day of the Royal Wedding about a year ago! From the tea kettles filled with flowers, to the fascinators that each guest wore in their hair, to the bite sized treats, this could not be cuter.

Taking inspiration from the season is always an option for a spring shower. Since rain could constrict the party indoors, why not bring the outdoors inside? This spring garden themed baby shower is bright and cheery like the season with flower pot centerpieces and hand crafted pinwheels!

A nontraditional idea is to have a candy inspired shower, like Dylan Lauren (daughter or Ralph Lauren and owner of Dylan’s Candy Bar) had for her bridal shower. An obvious theme for the owner of the largest candy store in the world but it’s a fun idea and everyone loves a good sugar high. This framed heart mosaic is made with gum and the invitations were printed on candy bar labels!
